GROWS (Growing Resilience on the West Side)

We are a collective dedicated to increasing the production & availability of fresh food, with a focus on the West Side of Saint Paul, by facilitating cooperation among individuals and organizations. The primary tactic of GROWS is the mutually beneficial sharing of material resources (seeds, equipment, labor-hours, food, money) and immaterial resources (best practices, skill sharing, lessons learned).

What is “Food Justice?” Food Justice is an understanding that healthy food is not equally distributed in our neighborhood or city because of structural barriers rooted in the racist, colonial history of our food system. Growing food locally, tending shared land, and distributing produce for free are ways to address those barriers as well as increase community connection and resilience in the face of climate change.
